Big Brothers Watching: Two male lions (Panthera leo), positioned separately from the main pride nearby, look towards hunt and food potential. This image was taken during the early evening. The pride had been resting up in the same area since morning. Lions usually spend up to 20 hours each day slumbering to conserve energy for the daily hunt, which mostly takes place at night. Shortly before this sudden interest in a passing meal, these two had been having dormant moments, paying little interest in the photographer, apart from the occasional glance, usually followed by a yawn and a roll over to change sides!
